In the world of Sweet Adelines, there are some things that just cannot be explained to those outside it. Like those few expectant moments before a performance, waiting for that curtain to go up and that thrill of sharing our gift with our fans. A cappella Joy got to experience just that in their September show, “Drop the Mic”. It truly was a perfect storm for A cappella Joy chorus to be able to share the stage with special guests international champion Storm Front quartet, and international 2nd place quartet winner, Frenzy.
The show began with a spoof slide show of the Ajoy members’ alter egos, which brought many giggles and guffaws from the audience. Ajoy then delighted the crowd with several of their signature tunes, some familiar pop tunes in barbershop style, and even a kitschy toe-tapping tongue twister about cooking chili!
Frenzy previewed their competition songs and finals show package with a finale that brought a standing ovation! In true Frenzy tradition – they brought humor, stunning musical breadth, and some surprising props!
The show continued to delight with the hilarious comedy styles of Storm Front quartet, complete with an outrageous magic show. It was truly a masterful act. Yet, intertwined in all the silliness was the smooth deep melodies that we love of a superb men’s quartet.
We’d like to give a special thank you to our amazing MC’s, Judy Pozsgay and Kelly Dahlman-Oeth. Judy brought her easy, non-nonsense style to kick off the day. Kelly had his own mini show of dance and lip sync antics to get the evening crowd going. Thank you to our families, friends and Ajoy fans for their continued undying support. It was an amazing day!!
